Most lawns look fine on the surface. But underneath, the soil gets compacted over time - foot traffic, mowing, heavy rain - it all packs things down until water and nutrients can barely get through. That's when you start seeing thin, struggling grass that just won't respond no matter how much you water or fertilize.
Core aeration is how you fix that. We pull small plugs of soil out of the ground across the entire lawn, opening up channels that let air, water, and nutrients reach the root zone. Those plugs you see scattered across the turf - that's proof the machine is doing exactly what it should. Each one represents a hole in the ground where something good can now get in.
The soil cores we pulled here tell a story on their own. That dense, compact clay texture is exactly what was blocking the grass from thriving. Georgia soil - especially in the Cumming area - tends to be heavy red clay, and it compacts hard. Without aeration, fertilizer and water just sit on top and run off instead of soaking in.
Once the plugs break down on their own over the next couple of weeks, the lawn is left with a network of small openings throughout the root zone. That means better water absorption, stronger root growth, and grass that's actually set up to fill in thick. It's one of the most impactful things you can do for a lawn - and it's often the most overlooked.
We service lawns across Cumming, GA and the surrounding area. If your grass has been looking flat or thin despite regular care, compacted soil is usually the first thing worth addressing.
