We got out early to tackle aeration on the Cartersville Little League Fields at Hicks Park - and it was a great morning for it. This is the kind of work that does not always get attention, but it makes a real difference in how turf performs over a full season of play.

Compacted soil is one of the biggest threats to any athletic field. When the ground gets packed down from foot traffic, cleats, and regular use, grass roots struggle to get the air, water, and nutrients they need. The turf starts to thin out. Bare spots develop. And the field gets harder - which is not ideal for the kids playing on it.

Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil out of the ground across the entire field. Those holes open up the root zone and let everything breathe again. Roots go deeper, turf thickens up, and the field holds up better under heavy use. It is one of the most straightforward things you can do for a field, and the results show up quickly.

We use a commercial-grade stand-on aerator built for large turf areas. It covers ground efficiently without tearing up the surface, which matters on a field that needs to stay playable. The plugs you see scattered across the outfield grass break down on their own - no cleanup needed.

Keeping a community field like this in good shape matters. These kids deserve a well-maintained surface to play on, and we are glad to be part of making that happen for Cartersville Little League.
